Description:

The Ignatius apple orchard is in a process of transitioning into a diverse community orchard, with new plantings of chestnuts, hazelnuts, a half dozen types of berries, and more. As we diversify the species we also want to cultivate a collective of people interested in caring for it and learning important skills in fruit production. Would you like to contribute to the community orchard being a thriving site of local fruit production and education? Come to this workshop and discussion!

Orchardist Matt Soltys will present some very inspiring examples of community orchards across North America; we will then discuss what it would look like to be part of a collective that cares for the orchard.

Because Ignatius Farm is a hub of organic agriculture and community gardening in our region, and given that the Ignatius Jesuit Centre attracts retreatants from around the world, the orchard is well-poised to grow it’s public profile and have a meaningful impact on regional food security. We welcome your involvement, regardless of prior experience.

Location TBA based on numbers and weather.
